Senior Center Sparks Enthusiasm
A group of excited knitters and non-knitters gathered yesterday to hear about The Knitting Project. Suzanne talked about the idea of a community based public art project using knitting as a way of embellishing some of the animal statues around town this winter. She showed images of what others have done around the world and inviting participants to think creatively. With a focus on funny, members of the group laughed and some wanted to start knitting immediately!

The Knitting Project
A community public art project for Jackson Hole in which YOU can participate! I conjured this fun, collaborative project to forge new multi-generational interactions. Your help in knitting embellishments for bronze animal statues in town is wanted. There will be lessons if you want to learn how to knit. Fun and socializing for all ages! Making of Sweater

The video of the making of Sweater, created at the Charles Schulz Museum, has been posted. [Update: the museum has since taken down the video] The sculpture has been very well received at the museum in it’s several months stay. Soon Sweater will be heading back to Jackson Hole where it will take up residence at the Center for the Arts.
Drury’s “Carbon Sink” at UW
I was in Laramie in November 2010 and able to attend a lecture given by Chris Drury at the University of Wyoming Art Museum. He spoke and showed images of a number of previous works. His focus was on the use of materials and the process of ‘making,’ and he highlighted the uniqueness and context of each piece. Chris was slated to create a site specific work during the summer of 2011 on the UW campus. I was curious to see how the piece turned out having been to the lecture. The March 2012 edition of Sculpture Magazine, contains a feature article (431KB PDF*) on Suzanne’s recent installation work. The article was written by Dr. Katarzyna Zimna, who received her PhD in 2010 from Loughborough University in Leicestershire, England. Zimna’s doctoral thesis, Play in the Theory and Practice of Art caused her to be drawn to the work Suzanne created, Magic Carpet Ride at the Central Museum of Textiles in Łódź, Poland.
