3pm Sunday September 4th, east side of Key Arena, Seattle Center, Seattle Washington
Anitra Freeman reads from the anthology The Sisterhood of Homeless Women in Poetry, while artist Suzanne Morlock knits.
Great Balls of Yarn!, is a temporary public art work commissioned by the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture and implemented by Morlock and Glenn Messersmith.
This performance extended the conceptual underpinnings hononring and celebrating domestic craft historically done in the home by women without much recognition. Using this reference coupled with poetry written by women who have experienced homelessness, the narrative is expanded and invites the audience to consider homelessness through this lens.
