The last two weeks since our last formal meeting at the Center for the Arts have been filled with planning for installations. As I reviewed the photos I’ve taken seems as if this time also meant meeting in small groups to talk about details, enjoy the company of others sans needles and lot of figuring.
My MFA classmate Jude, in town for the month, couldn’t resist joining in for a little finger knitting, and a breakfast to deliver her contribution.
Jana Roice, Courtney Cedarholm and I braved the wind and almost rain to measure the Sports Authority Elk (as he’s come to be known), with muslin and pincushion in hand.
This past Thursday our collaborators on the Sports Authority Elk got a chance to share what they’ve been doing in their separate sessions at Colter Elementary and the Living Center. A group of 20+ gathered at the Living Center and everyone ate cookies!
This Week
Tuesday December 4th at 3pm
First Interstate Bank, 842 W. Broadway @ Virginian Lane
Mary Ann Bielby, Mary Culter, Christie Herman and Becky Zaist will install the “First Interstate Duo” as they’ve been dubbed, with their inspired knitted work for this pair’s winter wardrobe. Come if you can.
Thursday December 6th around 2:30pm
Rustic Inn at Jackson Hole, 525 N Cache Street across from the Visitor Center
Becky Chambers and Gail Hahn will install the idea inspired by Marge Kudar from River Rock Assisted Living. Marge stated after seeing my intro presentation back in September that she didn’t want to knit but she had an idea — moose don’t see very well and some times they walk though outdoor ornaments. So the moose in front of the Rustic Inn will get a fun adornment to his antlers! Come if you can.
Sunday December 9th 2-4pm
Bison strip weaving at the Senior Center, 830 E. Hansen
Come join in whether you’ve been knitting or not. It will be a time to see what’s going on with Maj. Bison, John Simms’ sculpture which has gotten lots of needles clacking. Courtney and Sue Cedarholm and a bunch of knitters have collaborated on this clever idea for Maj. Bison this winter, come help it evolve. It’s also time to bring your strips as the piece will be installed soon after the weaving is done. Hot apple cider and snacks too.
Stay tuned for the rest of the installations coming soon…
